The long-awaited follow-up to Melt, Signs of Life, continues to follow Joey and Dorothy after the events in Melt. We get to see how a powerful decision affected them, how one lost their way and how the other is trying to find theirs. Signs of Life recounts events that changed their lives with biting consequences in unflinching detail and lyrical prose that will keep readers on their toes until the very last sentence. You can tell that Selene Castrovilla poured her soul into these characters to tell their story and it shines in this harrowing yet hopeful tale. I was surprised by the direction the story took and I can't wait to see where they go in the next installment. I hope for only the best for these characters that have wormed their way into my heart. For now, enjoy a few lit memes I made just for the book below!

The tables are turned with a vengeance in this tour de force love story. Nearly a year has gone by and now it’s Dorothy who is fragmented and lost, while Joey keeps the promise he had made her to better himself—even though she’s gone. Joey talks about what is happening in the present while Dorothy describes what happened before— in the moments and hours after the Glock dropped. This time the stakes are even higher, as Joey forces himself to move forward while Dorothy is frozen in place. But when he learns of a devastating decision, Joey races to find her before it is too late. Truth, consequence, repercussion and modern medicine collide as pieces converge in this psychological, thrilling story which begs the question: Can love really conquer all?

{Story Diary} The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi

Apr 25, 2016

Roshani Chokshi's stellar debut The Star-Touched Queen releases today, April 26, from St. Martin's Griffin Teen! Roshani’s imagination and talent shines in her beautiful, lush writing, vivid storytelling, dark undertones with scary creatures, and a working mix of Indian folklore and Hades/Persephone retelling that makes The Star-Touched Queen wholly captivating and one of my favorite books. You learn so much from the Indian culture to the mythology that makes your reading experience smart and that much more fun.

Go forth and read it, and don't be afraid to be your own star-touched queen. ;)

Young Adult Fantasy, Retelling, Mythology
April 26, 2016 from St. Martin's Griffin Teen

Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you’re only seventeen?

Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of death and destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father’s kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran’s queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar’s wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire…

But Akaran has its own secrets—thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most…including herself.

"The worms do not take heed of caste and rank when they feast on our ashes," the Raja said. "Your subjects will not remember you. They will not remember the shade of your eyes, the colors you favored, or the beauty of your wives. They will only remember your impression upon their hearts and whether you filled them with glee or grief. That is your immortality."

"It is nice to be nice," said Kamala with a sage nod. "And it is also nice to eat people."

God love Kamala. XD

"I want to lie beside you and know the weight of your dreams," he said, brushing his lips against my knuckles. "I want to share whole worlds with you and write your name in the stars." He moved closer and a chorus of songbirds twittered silver melodies.
"I want to measure eternity with your laughter."
Now, he stood inches from me; his rough hands encircled my waist. "Be my queen and I promise you a life where you will never be bored. I promise you more power than a hundred kings. And I promise you that we will always be equals."

"The best motivation is love," I offered. Beside me, Kamala nodded vigorously. "And food!"

dreamology by lucy keating | lit meme

Apr 12, 2016

dreamology is an imaginative and dreamy tale of atmospheric adventures both in dreams and in real life, and meeting the boy of your dreams and trying to figure out how it’s possible. i immensely enjoyed this book that i ate it up… or was it all the oreo cake that was mentioned? i don’t know, this book made me hungry for my favorite things.

dreamology is such a perfectly fitting title for this book – it has a blend of dreams and psychology that makes this story fun and interesting. it’s an imaginative and dreamy tale that any dreamer will absolutely eat up. personally, sleep psychology has always fascinated me because of my lucid dreaming tendencies, so i was immediately drawn in to this story. it’s a total trip to seep into the characters dreams and try to differentiate it from reality. it also showed much love for oreo cake and pizza. i mean, what’s not to like and relate to!? you guys will enjoy this dreamy contemporary.

dreamology is out today, so go forth and read it, eat it, fall in love with max and dream about it.

when we collided emery lord aesthetic

when we collided moodboard

a very special book birthday to emery lord’s third novel when we collided! i had the opportunity to snag an arc at ALA last summer, and i immediately started reading it on my way home.

this book is utterly important and heart-achingly beautiful. the characters and the feels are painfully honest and raw to the bone, and it’s also so full of life and love. it paints the good and the bad parts of life, and yet has the power to stay positive through it all. it shines on all the important aspects that we shouldn’t ignore, and fills our hearts so full.

and of course i had to include a few snaps from my mendocino (where verona cove based off of) trip to share as well.

add when we collided to your tbr!
